Paying the Price

So for the last couple of weeks i had this on my mind...I'm getting tired of the routine that most churches are in... where it becomes all the about the events and programs instead of serving and worshiping the Lord... I am a huge advocate of letting your deeds do the talking but i also realize that at times we need to speak...The more i read the new testament the more i realize that the most successful church is a small house church... that the early believers focused on serving the Lord and doing His work then they did at pleasing people or making them feel comfortable or at ease... I think today's church decided that it is better to get people in church then to actually seek God and let them see for themselves... we try to tell them about God's power but when he decides to show up we try to see if He will make the visitors uncomfortable... I know in the New Testament the word of God was followed by the power of God... and i think now we want the word but not the power to make that word legit... personally i think that if you let God do his thing people would wanna come and watch and if they feel uncomfortable well they can leave its not that big of a deal... I know Jesus used this and it worked for him maybe we should learn from it...I dont know maybe this is wrong but i think we might try something else since our church as a whole is really dead and doesnt seem to see that we are missing the power of God... anyways i am out till the next time...

  1. Very awesome blog Denis. I would have to agree with you on so much of what you said. You should read Francis Chan's new book "Forgotten God, reversing our tragic neglect of the Holy Spirit"... I have been study it for the past few weeks for small groups after spring break. It really hits on points you were making.

  2. I understand what you are saying, but I need to correct some things. 1. the church was not strong because of home groups, but home groups were strong because of the church. Yes the church of corinth had about 61 members (according to scholars), but by the time the church of Jerusalem was handed over to James (by Peter) it boasted 60,000 members. The only 2 reasons we see home groups in the new testament are #1 the corporate body was to big and #2 persecution. Yes a lot of churches are seeker sensative, but that is the quickest way to empty a church through rebuke all the time. Not all people are on fire for God and we can either rebuke them or we can pray for them and help them get on fire. So I must say that we need to help the weak and help the strong.
